| southern graphics did rock. and i have many many stories to tell..... but i probably won't go into them all right now.... i'll give you a highlight though. here goes. this is a good one. are you ready? oh yeah.
kym and i decided to make a thirty-somethingish-block trek downtown [which i love how i can call it downtown because it's south, but it's actually up a freakin huge hill so there is really nothing 'down' about it....] to visit one of the art museums there in kansas city mo, to see claes oldenburg's "shuttlecocks" sculptures. now these things are impressive. i saw one of them from the shuttle bus between the college campuses and got so excited to remember that there was claes oldenburg work in kansas city that i pretty much couldn't contain myself until i could get back there to physically stand in front of them and behold their presence.... it was fantastic. but yeah, the "story" bit.... as we were walking this absolutely crazy distance [ok maybe not that crazy because i don't think that i belong in an institution or anything, i was just excited to see the work and didn't mind a good hike] some guy in a van stopped his vehicle and whistled at us and then said something in spanish that i'm sure was very improper and illegal in at least seven different states. needless to say we just kept walking. we had things to do and sculpture to see.
but now i have things to do and printmaking to think about so i bid you farewell.

| so i am totally going here in march. and oh man is it gonna rock! | | |
| today was the best day at school i think i've had by far.
[warning: the following contains random details and some technical terms related to printmaking and stone lithography and i will not be offended if nobody understands or cares about them in the slightest.]
i got into the photo lab around noon and busted out a few prints in record time. still made it to litho twenty minutes early. jon (my teacher) called down to the printshop right before class was supposed to start and said he'd be late because he and his wife got to bring their new baby boy home from the hospital today. i was waiting to ask him a question but since he was going to be late i decided to get to work anyways and basically just hoped that my prints would look alright not knowing why my registration marks were all wonky, making my two underprinted layers not match up correctly. turns out that my stone printed perfectly and was still lined up with the most important of the first two layers, so it didn't matter that the registration was off- it looks amazing. jon came in around four or something and told me how amazing they looked. this is a very high compliment from jon. i made a couple extra prints off my stone before i cleaned it so i could have some plain black and white images to hand-colour later if i want. then i didn't even have to clean up my roller or slab because someone else wanted to use the press i was at and print their stuff today too. that is completely and totally awesome, because cleaning up all that ink is not so fun at all and i don't particularly enjoy inhaling that many fumes from the lithotene and mineral spirits. before i left jon and i had a great talk about how my printmaking stuff relates to my photo stuff and he thinks he could help me get approval to do a double-concentration so i can keep doing both photo and printmaking and have that reflected in my actual degree. most of the time they don't let you do that because they feel that working towards a degree in more than one focus area keeps you from exploring either one completely. they'll take your money and you can keep taking classes outside of your focus, but they won't let you have a degree in that other area, even if you have enough credits to cover both. dumb. he thinks we can work around this and get the appropriate forms signed and whatnot. i think he is fabulous. now all i have to do is finish putting together my photo project for tomorrow and then get to work on my final litho project. it's due in a week but i know i can pull that off. before he graduated last spring, dave pulled off a six-colour litho in one day. i wonder if jon knows about that one.... haha.

| a short sunday story:
last night i went to a party. a ninja stared at me. then i left. the end.
| i am incredibly busy lately. lithography is very demanding. but i like it. a lot. i keep staying up way too late. this has got to stop! but i miss people! oh people....
but i bid you farewell. i must now go attempt to locate a very sad panda bear's keys. i think the sofa may have actually digested them. *edit* after much effort, i finally managed to locate the keys, perched on the very edge of the sofa frame, and then like the professional i am, managed to knock them into the black abyss. this freakin sofa, no actually it's only a loveseat, should be named freakin moby dick. it's like a cavern. so after much turning and tilting of said cavernous sofa, said keys could be reached through a tiny opening i made in the bottom by pulling some of the staples out. yay success.
